Checkers, called draughts in British English, has many regional variants. The Cardgames.io version uses the common 8x8 board with 12 pieces per side. The site's about section says checkers was one of the games the team had long wanted to make but needed to learn properly first, and that it was the 31st game made for Cardgames.io.

Cardgames.io is owned and operated by Rauðás Games ehf. The site runs its games in JavaScript in the browser, is available in ten languages, and offers dozens of other titles such as Backgammon, Chess and Reversi alongside its card games.

How to play Checkers: Cardgames.io

Pieces move diagonally forward one square on the dark squares. If an opponent's piece sits diagonally in front of yours with an empty square behind it, you must jump it, and a single turn can chain several captures. A piece that reaches the far row becomes a King and can move backwards as well. You win by capturing all opposing pieces or leaving your opponent with no legal move; the game is drawn if the same position repeats three times or 100 moves pass without a capture. The options menu lets you turn off mandatory jumps or move highlighting.

1. Open the page; a game against the computer is ready to start.
2. Click one of your pieces, then click the square you want to move it to.
3. Use Options to change your preferred color, mandatory jumps, highlighting or game speed.
4. Click Multiplayer to join a table with other players, or create a private table and share its code with a friend.
