Lagos Life background

Naija Life describes itself as a life simulator in the spirit of The Sims, built around everyday Nigerian life: traffic go-slow, power cuts, markets and landlords. Lagos is the home city, and players can also travel to Abuja and Port Harcourt, each with its own places, homes and food. The official site lists 3 cities, 125 places, 25 careers and 17 homes.

The browser build is a Flutter web app. The same account and save work in the browser and in the Android app on Google Play, and an iPhone app is listed as coming soon. The game is free; in-game naira can be topped up, but the developer states nothing is locked behind a purchase. You can play as a guest, with the save kept on your device.

How to play Lagos Life

You create a Lagosian, choosing appearance, outfits in fabrics such as Ankara, Adire or Aso-oke, and a trait, then manage six needs: hunger, energy, fun, social, hygiene and bladder. You find work through an in-game Jobs app, where each of the 25 careers has five levels tied to skills. Money goes on rent, which is due every Saturday, or on buying a home outright. Other systems include haggling at market stalls, getting around by danfo, keke, okada or your own car, generator fuel during power cuts, a weekly vote for governor, and chat with other signed-in players.

  1. Open the page and choose to continue in the browser; it also works on phone browsers.
  2. Play as a guest, or sign in if you want cloud saves, chat and the leaderboard.
  3. Create your character and pick a trait, then start in a single rented room in Mushin.
  4. Keep your six needs up, take a job through the phone's Jobs app, and save toward better housing.
