Play AI Dungeon in Your Browser
AI Dungeon is a text adventure and interactive story game in which an AI language model writes the story in response to whatever the player types. This link is the game's official web app run by Latitude.

AI Dungeon background
AI Dungeon was created by Nick Walton while he was a student at Brigham Young University. It began as a hackathon project built on OpenAI's GPT-2 model, with a first version appearing in May 2019. A second version, AI Dungeon 2, was released on Google Colaboratory in December 2019; it used the full-size GPT-2, fine-tuned on choose-your-own-adventure stories, and let players type free-form actions instead of picking from menus.
The release drew so much traffic that it ran up large server costs and briefly went offline. Walton then co-founded the company Latitude in Utah with his brother Alan Walton to develop the game as a web and mobile app. AI Dungeon moved to GPT-3 in 2020, and after disputes over content moderation in 2021 Latitude switched to models from other providers. Latitude raised a 3.3 million dollar seed round in February 2021.
How to play AI Dungeon
A session starts from a scenario: a short premise and setting written by Latitude or by community members, ranging from fantasy quests to mysteries and science fiction. You type what your character does or says, and the AI continues the story, describing results, other characters and new situations. There is no fixed map, score or ending; the story goes wherever your inputs lead, and you can retry, undo or edit the AI's text to steer it. Players can also write their own scenarios and share them with others.
- Open play.aidungeon.com and sign in or continue as prompted.
- Pick a scenario from the home page, or create your own setting.
- Type an action or line of dialogue in the input box and submit it to see how the AI continues the story.
- Use the retry, undo and edit options to adjust passages you do not like.
