wosu! Community Browser Client background

osu! is a free rhythm game created by Dean Herbert (ppy), first released in 2007 and inspired by the Nintendo DS game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. Its community has produced a very large library of player-made beatmaps.

wosu! is developed by GitHub user Mostlime12195 and released under the MIT licence. It is the successor to WebOsu 2, which was itself a continuation of the original WebOsu project; the WebOsu 2 site now points players to wosu!. The author describes it as an almost complete rewrite aimed at feeling closer to osu!lazer, with the whole interface rendered in PixiJS. Beatmaps are downloaded from community mirrors such as Sayobot, Mino and NeriNyan, or you can import your own .osz files. Only the osu!standard mode is supported, there are no accounts or multiplayer, and the README notes that scoring can still differ from official osu!.

How to play wosu! Community Browser Client

Each beatmap is a song with a chart of objects that appear on screen in time with the music. You click hit circles as their approach circles close in, hold and follow sliders along their paths, and spin spinners. Accuracy and timing determine your score and combo, and missing notes drains your health bar. wosu! includes many standard mods such as Easy, Hard Rock, Double Time, Hidden and Flashlight, plus storyboards, beatmap skins and hitsounds, and a local leaderboard on song select, with settings saved in your browser.

  1. Open wosu.dino.icu and wait for the client to load.
  2. Pick one of the default beatmaps, download more through the in-game listing (Ctrl+D), or import your own .osz file.
  3. Hit notes with Z or X, the mouse buttons, or by tapping on a touch screen, and aim with the cursor.
  4. Press Esc to pause, Space to skip an intro, F1 to choose mods, and Ctrl+O to open settings and rebind keys.
