I Can Smell You from Here background

The game was published on itch.io in September 2026 as an entry in the Spooktober 8th Annual Visual Novel Jam. It was made in Godot, and the itch.io credits list catproblem9735 for writing, game design, art, animation, music, sound and programming. A Russian localization by kuroiuma was added later.

The creator says the story tries to capture a specific fear: telling one lie and then having to invent increasingly ridiculous details to keep it consistent. The page carries content warnings for body horror, violence, cannibalism, references to murder, strong language and sexual themes. Besides the browser build, the page lists Windows and Linux downloads and an Android APK added in a later update.

You play a man on his first-ever date, with his first match from a dating app, a woman named Idimya. The game is mostly reading and choosing what to say, and your answers steer the conversation as the lie grows. There are five endings, and each run closes with a psychological evaluation showing how close you came to Idimya's heart, which gives a reason to replay and try different choices. Itch.io lists an average session of about half an hour.
