Little Alchemy 2 background

Little Alchemy 2 was designed by Polish developer Jakub Koziol and released by his studio Recloak on August 23, 2017, for web browsers, Android and iOS. It follows the original Little Alchemy, which Koziol released on the Chrome Web Store in December 2010 and which grew from around a hundred elements to several hundred through updates.

The sequel kept the same idea but expanded the item list, added redrawn art and gave each discovery a short, often humorous description, which the official site highlights as part of the appeal. Recloak has continued to update the game, and an expansion pack called Myths and Monsters adds a separate set of fantasy-themed items.

How to play Little Alchemy 2

You start with four elements: air, earth, fire and water. Dragging one element onto another combines them, and if the pair has a recipe, a new item appears and is added to your library, such as fire and water producing steam. Every new discovery can be mixed again, so the collection branches from basic matter into weather, life, tools, buildings, technology and pop-culture ideas. There is no timer or failure state; the goal is to find as many items as you can, and the game shows which items still have undiscovered combinations.

  1. Open littlealchemy2.com and press play to start in your browser.
  2. Drag an element from your library onto the workspace.
  3. Drop a second element on top of the first to try a combination; successful mixes add a new item to your library.
  4. Keep combining new results with older ones, and read each item's description for hints about what it might lead to.
