MapTap.gg background

MapTap was made by John Donham, who wrote that he built it over a couple of months of weekends because he enjoyed daily games such as Wordle, Waffle and Framed. It launched on the web in 2024 and has since been released as apps for iOS and Android by MapTap Inc.

Each day's five locations are tied to events that happened on that date in history, and short write-ups called Today's Stories explain why each place was chosen; they unlock only after you finish, since they would give away the answers. The site also offers an optional MapTap+ subscription with past puzzles, practice maps and friend groups.

How to play MapTap.gg

The daily globe gives you a place name or clue for five locations, one at a time. You spin and zoom the globe and tap where you think each place is, and the closer your tap, the more points you earn. After the round you can compare your score with the global average and see how other players guessed each location. Logged-in players keep a daily streak and statistics. There is also a Versus mode in which two players get the same five locations with 25 seconds each, plus an Elo leaderboard for rated matches.

  1. Open maptap.gg/home and select today's globe.
  2. Read the clue for the first location, rotate and zoom the globe, and tap where you think it is.
  3. Repeat for all five locations and review your score and the day's stories.
  4. Create an account if you want to keep your streak, or send a Versus challenge to a friend.
