Slither.io background

Slither.io was created by Steve Howse and released in March 2016. It took the classic Snake formula online: every snake in the arena is another player, and any snake that runs its head into another body is destroyed and leaves food behind.

Following the success of Agar.io, it became one of the best-known .io games, a wave of simple multiplayer browser games that load instantly and need no account.

How to play Slither.io

You steer a snake with your mouse and grow by eating glowing pellets. If your head touches another snake's body, you die and turn into pellets that others can eat, and the same happens to any snake that runs into you. Holding the left mouse button or Space gives you a speed boost at the cost of some length. A common tactic is to circle around a smaller snake to trap it.

1. Enter a nickname and press Play.
2. Move your mouse to steer the snake toward pellets.
3. Hold the left mouse button or Space to speed up when you need to escape or cut someone off.
4. Keep your head away from other snakes' bodies.
