Funday Games is a small studio based in Aarhus, Denmark, known for Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor and Wild Indigo Ranch. The studio regularly publishes prototypes on itch.io, and The Margot Collapse grew out of one of them, an incremental prototype called Reacticore. In a devlog the team explained that Reacticore was satisfying enough to make and play that they decided to rework it into a full game.

The itch.io page lists the game as in development and pay what you want, with an HTML5 version and a Windows download, and it recommends the PC version or the Steam demo if the web build has problems. A free demo was released on Steam in June 2026 and has since been updated with the start of a second act. The full game has a Steam page but no fixed release date yet.

How to play The Margot Collapse

You are a new employee assigned to Project M with a basic workstation: a portable bioscope, a container of microbes and a non-adjustable chair. You study the samples, fire charged isotopes into cell cultures, collect the resulting compounds and send your findings to TOPTECH through a pneumatic tube network. Good results unlock a research budget for new equipment, and each upgrade speeds up production until the work turns into chain reactions. The developers describe it as part workplace simulator, part optimization game and part surreal short story, and as the upgrades pile up it becomes clear that something at the company is wrong.

1. Open the itch.io page and launch the web version in your browser.
2. Examine your microbe samples and ship your results through the pneumatic tube to earn research budget.
3. Spend the budget on lab equipment to speed up your output and unlock further upgrades.
4. If the web version runs poorly, use the Windows download or the free demo on Steam as the developer suggests.
