Agar.io background
Brazilian developer Matheus Valadares released Agar.io in April 2015. Its simple rules and instant multiplayer made it a hit, and it is widely credited with starting the trend of .io browser games.
The game was later acquired by Miniclip, which also released mobile versions. The browser version remains free to play.
How to play Agar.io
You control a cell with your mouse and grow by eating pellets and smaller cells. You can eat any cell that is clearly smaller than you, and any clearly larger cell can eat you. Pressing Space splits your cell to lunge at prey, and pressing W ejects a little mass. Bigger cells move more slowly, and the green spiky viruses split large cells that touch them, so size is both a strength and a weakness.
- Enter a nickname and press Play.
- Move your mouse to steer your cell toward pellets and smaller players.
- Press Space to split and catch a smaller cell, but beware of being eaten while split.
- Use green viruses as cover from larger players.
