Seedbed background

Seedbed is a small independent web game published at playseedbed.com. Its premise is that you are a regional governor rather than a mayor: the towns decide for themselves how to live, including how they respond to AI and a warming climate, while you control infrastructure, the budget and research.

The game generates its region from a world seed with a choice of map size, and runs in the browser on desktop and touch devices with no installation. Its own soundtrack plays in the background and can be switched off. Information about who made the game is not given on the site.

How to play Seedbed

Time advances month by month across a hundred years. You lay rail lines, roads and ferry routes between towns, build power and climate projects, and use land tools to raise, lower or level ground, plant forest or protect nature. A budget screen sets taxes and spending, and higher taxes cost approval, especially in some kinds of towns. Research, elections and a mandate shape what you can do, and graphs track how the region and its towns are doing until your term ends.

  1. Open the page and choose New game; pick a map size and a world seed or leave it random.
  2. Drag, scroll or pinch to move and zoom the map, and use Q and E to rotate the view.
  3. Select the track or road tool and drag between towns to build routes.
  4. Press Space to pause, R for research, B for the budget and C for graphs.
