The game's own introduction says, "Our dad invented this game to keep us occupied on family road trips, and now you can play!" The website numbers its puzzles from mid-August 2025, so the daily web version has been running since then. Mobile versions are also listed on the iOS App Store and Google Play.

Its popularity has led to a number of unofficial solver and hint sites; poople.io describes itself as the official home of the game. Your guesses and a record of past games are stored locally in your browser.

How to play Poople

A random four-letter starting word is chosen each day, and everyone gets the same one. Each word you enter must be a valid word in the game's list and differ from the previous word by exactly one letter, so a path might pass through words such as BARN and BORN on its way. The goal is to reach POOP in the fewest steps; the game compares your path with the shortest one possible and marks a minimum-length solution as perfect. After finishing you can view your stats, and the next day you can see yesterday's shortest path.

1. Open poople.io and read the day's starting word.
2. Type a four-letter word that changes exactly one letter, then press Enter.
3. Keep changing one letter per step until you reach POOP.
4. Check your stats, and look at Yesterday's answer to see the shortest route.
